Haba Farm threading

Farm threading

Objective: Promote pincer grasp and eye-hand coordination

Material: Haba threading game*, basket

Preparation: Place the beads in the basket and put the basket on the tray. Set the cards and the string next to it.

Execution: The child follows the pattern. The template cards are in different difficulty levels with 1, 2 or 3 stars. It is best to provide the child with only the easy template cards the first time and gradually increase the difficulty.

Threading animals

Objective: Promote fine motor skills

Material: Melissa and Doug threading animals wood*

Preparation: The strings are placed in the basket and placed on the tray. The animals are placed next to them.

Execution: The child threads the strings along the edge of the animals as if sewing. The animals are made of wood and therefore can withstand quite a lot. You can start with the fish or the turtle, for example, as these are a bit easier than the dog, cat and rabbit.
Caution: Since the strings are very long, you should watch the children, because of strangulation risk.

Loom bands tensioning

Loom bands tensioning

Objective: Promote fine motor skills

Material: Loom bands, mini hair ties or mini household elastics, balls*, basket

Preparation: The loom bands are placed in the basket. This is placed on the tray together with the balls.

Execution: The child stretches the elastics around the knobs of the balls and “decorates” the rubber balls in this way. Then all the elastics are taken off again and put back into the basket.

Scooping around pompoms

Objective: Promote fine motor skills

Material: Learning Resources tweezers*, pompoms*, 2 containers

Preparation: The pompoms are filled into one of the two containers. The full and the empty container are placed on the tray and the yellow tweezers are added.

Execution: The child grabs a pompom from the left jar with the tweezers and puts it into the right one. This is repeated until all the pompoms are in the right container. Then the containers are switched so that all the pompoms can be scooped from left to right again.
This scooping activity can also be assigned to the topic area “Practical life exercises”.

Button snake

Button snake

Objective: Promote fine motor skills

Material: Craft felt*, craft knife*, button, needle and thread, ribbon

Preparation: Colorful pieces are cut from the craft felt. A slit for the button is then cut into these with the craft knife. After that, the button is sewn to a fabric ribbon with needle and thread. The fillet pieces are then threaded onto the ribbon.

Execution: The child begins to thread the fillet pieces from the ribbon by “unbuttoning” them. Then he or she can try to button them all back onto the ribbon. The whole thing can also be done the other way around, first “buttoning up” and then pulling the ribbon through and all the buttons are unthreaded again.

Laying beads

Objective: Promote fine motor skills

Material: Marble tray*

Preparation: All marbles are placed in the container, which is placed on the tray together with the wooden tray and the tweezers.

Execution: The child takes one marble after the other with the tweezers and puts them into the wooden recesses. When all the holes are filled, they are placed back into the tray, either with the tweezers or by hand.
This scooping activity can also be assigned to the topic area “Practical life exercises”.
