Screw jars
Objective: Promote fine motor skills and opening and closing
Material: Screw jars
Preparation: The screw jars are placed on the tray with the lids slightly screwed on.
Execution: The child tries to unscrew the jars. When the lids are open, an adult will have to help with closing them again at the beginning, since small children tend to find opening easier than closing.
Tip: At the beginning, screw the lids on only very slightly so that the child does not have to turn too far to remove them and thus achieves a first success.
Folding boxes
Objective: Promote fine motor skills and opening and closing
Material: Folding boxes
Preparation: The boxes are filled with a small object and placed on the tray.
Execution: The child tries to open the hinged boxes and close them again. For the child’s success, it is a good idea to put a small surprise in the boxes, some object that is big enough not to be swallowed and that the child will see as a success when he/she opens the box. When the child is finished, an adult should help fill the boxes back up with the items and put them properly back on the tray.
